Saffron, West Pre

   Reading: West "Race Matters"

My reading response for this text will be short because most of the area of racism that West addresses is already accepted by the members of my class. He discusses the relationship between racism and the creation of the United States of America, a relationship that people today are not willing to identify because it villaifies their education. In history class, we are taught that this country was built on the shoulders of hard working men without the consideration that the men whose shoulders this country relied on where not there willingly. These men were enslaved, sold, abused, and neglected at the cost of the creation of a new country which they did not even want to be a part of. The United States of America, slavery, and racism are all important to each other because without one, there would not be the others.
