Colin’s Cultural Contemplation Marx

Hey Blog, lets contemplate some culture

Our values in society are very merit based. The power you control matters more than humanity itself.

“It is not the consciousness of men that determines their being, but, on the contrary, their social being which determines their consciousness.”  (37)

Your whole character is based on your social status. Marx places social being above humanity itself. We in a capitalistic society place wealth over then person itself. You position and power mean much more than your well being or quality of life.

“Each new class which puts itself in the place of one ruling before it is compelled . . . to present its interest as the common interest of all the members of society . . .: it has to give its ideas the form of universality . . .” (40)

By placing yourself in a class which is above others you deem yourself more valuable. Its hard for your interests to be shared between classes when your social status means so much in capitalism and you experiences. Due to democracy the ruler class must almost convince or trick the lower class into thinking the problems higher society experiences are universal to all.

“Those who are in ideology believe themselves by definition outside ideology.”  (48)

Ideology is the belief in something that you cant exactly prove. Although by believing in the idea of ideology you acknowledge that what your believing in may not be true and cannot be proven. Ideology requires faith and belief to fill in the gaps of factual information at times. You can relate this to social classes and capitalism. Its almost an ideology to give with to those with more money because it requires belief. Americans put faith and belief into the dollar when its value is truly made up.
